We must consider art as an integral part of the social sphere... "and street art, far from escaping this, embraces it even more by inhabiting public spaces and speaking directly to the people."

This weekend, art returns to Basel with the intensity of an Art Basel week, and Protoplast will be a guest at the KUNSTTAGE BASEL with a lecture. You can visit them at the Keck Kiosk on Klybeckstrasse and also attend the supporting program with lectures on topics such as art, theory and research - a treasure for those hungry for knowledge, organized by the Unofficial Hiking Society.

Focusing on Protoplast is like being transported back to the origins of Street Art. It was a revolution! It began simultaneously in different parts of the world, taking shape in the 1960s and exploding in the 1990s. It is considered one of the greatest artistic revolutions of the late 20th century. Iconic artists such as the British Banksy, Obey Giant, JR or the Peruvian Diego Balazs immediately come to mind. Certain characteristics define street art, such as the creation of pieces in open spaces, interaction with the public, and presence at international fairs.

Wandering through the city and encountering posters by Protoplas is a surprising experience - you can't help but take a photograph. At Embassy, we love how these artists work in the anonymous… mysterious, playing with the unknown, which often makes their work all the more unsettling. What will they do next? You might wonder.
