Kaiserwache

Kaiserwache, an artist-run space for contemporary art housed in a former public restroom from 1906 in Freiburg im Breisgau, is kindly supported by the Kulturamt Freiburg as an independent art institution. Kaiserwache is currently hosting a solo exhibition by the Swiss artist collective Protoplast, invited by curator Ilja Zaharov. The opening took place on 27 March. The exhibition runs until 26 April 2026 and can be visited by appointment.

FABRIKculture

A group exhibition bringing together five artist collectives will be hosted by FABRIKculture in Alsace in October 2026, curated by Benny Kammüller and director Clément Stehlin. Inspired by the widely noted issue of KUNSTFORUM International, Vol. 285 (2022): „All together now! Kunst im Kollektiv”, the exhibition serves as a platform for diverse collective practices and spatial approaches. Selected by a jury from 36 international submissions, the participating collectives are: ADO & COMENIUS (Basel), COM & COM (Zürich), GISLER/GÄHWILER (Luzern), OUEST-LUMIERE (Paris), and PROTOPLAST (Basel). Point de vue

The filmmaker and artist Marcel Scheible is working on a documentary called "Merkwürdige Dreiecke" about a notorious geographic triangle in Basel, including scenes about Protoplast. The film is being produced by point de vue - a member of SFP - Swiss Film Producers Association. T66 Freiburg

The solo exhibition by Protoplast at Kulturwerk T66 in Freiburg im Breisgau, invited by curator Helge Emmaneel, was on view from January 24 to February 23, 2025. In the first-floor exhibition space, Protoplast presented an installation incorporating electrical devices, while the upper-floor gallery featured a series of new oil paintings. During the opening, Max Siebenhaar, curator of Kunstraum Delphi in Freiburg, gave the introductory speech. Kulturwerk T66 is run by BBK Südbaden, a non-profit association founded in 2002, and has established itself as an important platform for contemporary art in the Upper Rhine region, working with both regional and international artists.

The artist collective Protoplast was invited by curator and collector Karl Amann to present a solo exhibition at Galerie Sammlung Amann in Stuttgart. Architect and art collector Karl Amann has been building his private collection of modern and contemporary art since the late 1990s and extended it with this permanent gallery space and project room in Stuttgart-West. The public Protoplast works in the streets of Stuttgart were generously supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Stuttgart (Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart). The artistic poster works were installed in various public locations across Stuttgart for the duration of the project.

Galerie Littmann

invited by Klaus Littmann from Littmann Kulturprojekte. Protoplast exhibition and launch of the product "Light". Swiss television DRS "Kultur im Gespräch" and 3Sat produced and broadcast a film about this project on 14 and 20 November 1993. And on 30 November 1993, Swiss Radio DRS2 reported on "Protoplast light" - the project for ecological living by halving consumption in support of the Basel Lighthouse in the fight against AIDS.

Protoplast presented the artwork «autofocus» as part of the Jahresausstellung der Basler Künstlerinnen und Künstler 1992 at Kunsthalle Basel — an annual juried exhibition now known as Regionale. The exhibition, held under the directorship of Dr. Thomas Kellein, also featured Karl Glatt, Claudia und Julia Müller, Anna Wiesendanger, Jürg Stäuble and Hans Rémond, among others.
